Line Manager of the Month - Carol
Line Manager of the Month: Carol
We are delighted to recognise Carol as our December Line Manager of the Month, following a nomination from LSP Tutor, David, that highlights her exceptional commitment to developing her apprentice, Jayen.
Carol’s leadership highlights the value of an approach that combines encouragement, trust, and effective management to support meaningful development.
“Carol exemplifies what supportive and effective leadership really looks like. Her approach is grounded in encouragement, trust, and a genuine interest in helping people grow. Carol is consistently positive and reassuring, and this has really helped Jayen with his confidence and development. She creates an environment where he feels able and empowered to take on real responsibility.”
This supportive environment has enabled Jayen to take on significant tasks, including leading the migration to a new Earned Value Management tool - a complex and technically demanding piece of work.
“The fact that she trusts him with responsibilities like this says a lot about the way she manages and how strongly she believes in developing her team.”
Carol has a proactive approach to Jayen’s wider development. She consistently looks for opportunities that develop him in meaningful ways.
“What stands out most is how proactive Carol is about Jayen’s wider development. She makes sure he has opportunities that genuinely stretch and support him, whether that’s gaining internal certifications, taking on cross-functional tasks, or applying his apprenticeship learning in meaningful ways. She strikes the perfect balance between giving autonomy and being there with guidance when needed, which has allowed Jayen to grow quickly and confidently.”
Her support goes well beyond everyday responsibilities. She understands the pressures that come with the role and is committed to making the experience manageable for Jayen.
“Carol understands the pressures of balancing a full workload with apprenticeship commitments and does everything she can to make that workable and positive. Her leadership reflects Raytheon UK values in the best possible way.”
Carol also participates in Jayen’s apprenticeship progress reviews, ensuring his achievements are recognised and celebrated.
“Carol takes a very active role in Jayen’s apprenticeship progress reviews, often encouraging Jayen to shed his natural modesty to get him to highlight his significant achievements. In discussions around wider development subjects Carol is always prepared to offer her own views which increases the value of those sections of progress review.”
Carol responded to this recognition, saying:
“A big thank you to David for the nomination as Line Manager of the Month. Reward and recognition is a big part of what we do at Raytheon UK but to be recognised externally for our work is a hugely appreciated. Whilst Raytheon UK has a great history of apprenticeships, it is something new to our Project Controls function and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Jayen on his apprenticeship and seeing him put his learning into practice.
I am really proud of how Jayen embraces the learning and he is a really valued member of my team. I have learnt a great deal myself about apprenticeships along the way but have just approached this from the perspective of how I would like my sons to be supported as they enter their careers and from our company values around respect, trust, accountability, and collaboration.”
Carol brings Raytheon UK values to life through her supportive leadership. Her encouragement, trust, and dedication to developing others make a meaningful difference for her team every day.
A very well-deserved Line Manager of the Month - congratulations Carol!
