May Apprentice of the Month: Jacob Wood
We are pleased to announce that Jacob Wood at Amey has been named our May Apprentice of the Month, following an outstanding nomination from LSP Support Coach, Diane.
This recognition celebrates apprentices who demonstrate exceptional dedication, professional growth, and a proactive approach to both their role and apprenticeship programme. Jacob’s journey is a fantastic example of how commitment, ambition and a passion for learning can lead to outstanding achievements and career progression.
Diane began by highlighting Jacob’s exceptional performance throughout his apprenticeship so far:
“Jacob is an outstanding apprentice whose dedication, professionalism, and passion for learning truly set him apart. His attendance and punctuality are exemplary, and he consistently demonstrates a positive attitude and exceptional engagement in every aspect of his apprenticeship.”
“Recognised as a top learner, Jacob produces work of an exceptionally high standard, achieving distinctions throughout - clear evidence of his commitment, determination, and drive to succeed.”
In the workplace, Jacob has embraced significant responsibilities with confidence and maturity. He has taken ownership of projects whilst continually developing to support his long-term career ambitions.
“Jacob actively manages his own projects while continuing to develop his knowledge, skills, and behaviours. He sets clear SMART objectives and shows strong ambition for his future career.”
Diane also praised Jacob’s ability to build positive relationships across the business and his highly effective communication skills:
“His organisation, communication, and delegation skills are highly effective, enabling him to build positive working relationships with both clients and contractors."
Jacob’s impact within the workplace has been remarkable. He consistently demonstrates initiative and actively seeks opportunities to improve processes and increase efficiency.
“His problem-solving ability stands out - he not only anticipates potential challenges but also develops practical solutions, such as introducing a paperless SharePoint system for site plans, improving accessibility and efficiency across teams.”
Jacob’s technical knowledge and attention to detail have also developed significantly throughout his apprenticeship. Diane highlighted how confidently Jacob applies his learning in real workplace situations:
“His attention to detail, technical understanding, and strong health and safety awareness have grown significantly. Jacob confidently applies his learning in the workplace, from reviewing drawings and managing bookings to making informed recommendations that support both project delivery and safety standards.”
Jacob’s achievements have not gone unnoticed. His dedication and professionalism have already been recognised at Amey, where he was awarded ‘Midlands Newcomer of the Year’.
Diane also highlighted Jacob’s ambition and determination to continue pushing himself further:
“He has also put himself forward for the Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire Apprentice Awards 2026, that demonstrates that he is ambitious, driven and consistently exceeding expectations. Jacob is a truly deserving candidate for the LSP Apprentice of the Month.”
Jon Hornagold, Apprenticeship Manager at Amey, congratulated Jacob on the recognition:
“Jacob is a very focused and driven apprentice that continues to excel in his learning and in the workplace. His apprenticeship with LSP and the support of his coach Diane, has laid the foundation for an extremely successful career with Amey. Many congratulations Jacob.”
Jacob responded to the recognition saying:
"My experience as an apprentice has been great so far. I’m learning more with every session I attend and applying that knowledge to develop solutions, support my team, and contribute to delivering projects."
