Line Manager of the Month - May 2026

May Line Manager of the Month: Charlie Lawn

We are delighted to recognise Charlie Lawn as our May Line Manager of the Month, following a fantastic nomination from learner Zac.

This award recognises line managers who go above and beyond to support their learners, helping them balance the demands of their apprenticeship while encouraging personal and professional growth. Charlie’s nomination highlights his commitment to creating opportunities, providing guidance, and ensuring Zac has the support needed to succeed throughout his apprenticeship journey.

From the very beginning, Charlie has taken an active interest in Zac’s development, ensuring he has everything needed to progress confidently in his role:

“I am nominating my Line Manager for Line Manager of the Month because of the exceptional support, guidance, and encouragement he consistently provides throughout my apprenticeship journey.”

“From the outset, he has taken a genuine interest in my development, ensuring I have the time, resources and opportunities needed to succeed.”

Regular check-ins and open communication have been key to Zac’s success, helping him stay focused on both his apprenticeship and workplace responsibilities:

“Charlie regularly schedules catch-ups to discuss my progress, helps me balance my apprenticeship commitments with my day-to-day responsibilities, and provides constructive feedback that has helped me build both confidence and capability in my role.”

One key example highlighted in Zac’s nomination was Charlie’s support during periods when he found it challenging to manage his workload alongside apprenticeship assignments. Rather than allowing these pressures to become overwhelming, Charlie worked closely with Zac to find practical solutions:

“A specific example of his support was when I encountered challenges with managing my workload alongside apprenticeship assignments. They worked with me to prioritise tasks, protected dedicated study time, and encouraged open communication whenever I needed additional support.”

This not only helped me stay on track with my apprenticeship but also improved my overall performance and wellbeing.”

Charlie’s dedication to developing others is evident in the way he leads by example and creates a supportive environment where learning is encouraged and achievements are recognised:

“He consistently demonstrates our company values through his commitment to developing people, fostering an inclusive and supportive environment, and leading by example.”

By encouraging continuous learning and creating opportunities for Zac to apply new knowledge and skills in his role, Charlie has helped bridge the gap between learning and practical experience:

He encourages continuous learning, recognises achievements, and creates opportunities for me to apply new skills and knowledge in real work situations. His positive attitude, approachability, and willingness to invest time in my growth have made a significant difference to my apprenticeship experience.”

Charlie’s support extends far beyond the expectations of a line manager. His commitment to helping Zac grow has had a lasting impact:

“Charlie’s dedication to supporting apprentices goes beyond his managerial responsibilities, and he has played a key role in helping me develop professionally and personally. For these reasons, I believe he is highly deserving of the Line Manager of the Month award.”

Helen Bradford, Lead Learning and Development Advisor at JN Bentley congratulated Charlie on his recognition:

“Congratulations to Charlie Lawn on being recognised as Line Manager of the Month. Having started his own career as an apprentice, Charlie is a passionate advocate for developing others and creating opportunities for apprentices to succeed. He is a valued asset to JN Bentley, and this recognition is thoroughly deserved."

Congratulations Charlie! Thank you for the positive impact you continue to make on Zac’s development and apprenticeship journey. 👏
