Alumni Spotlight: Hassan Al-Saudi

Changing careers can feel like a huge leap, but for Hassan Al-Saudi, it was the start of something exciting. After working as a Mechanic, Hassan was ready for a new challenge - one that would give him long-term growth, fresh opportunities, and the chance to make an impact in a new industry. His Project Controls Technician apprenticeship became the gateway to a career in construction.

Why an Apprenticeship?

For Hassan, the apprenticeship offered a pathway into a new industry and a chance to grow professionally:

“I was motivated to complete an apprenticeship to pave a pathway for myself into the construction industry. I worked as a Mechanic prior to my apprenticeship, and wanted to transition to a corporate role with professional growth to provide better opportunities for myself.”

Skills and Knowledge Gained

Through his apprenticeship, Hassan developed practical and professional skills that continue to serve him every day:

“I gained numerous skills whilst completing my apprenticeship. To list a few, the ability to organise myself to a level where I can stay on top of multiple work streams and not allow things to slip. Planning my diary to assign a time for completing my tasks and my whereabouts, as some things are better done at home and things are better done in collaboration with my team if I require assistance/another pair of eyes. Most importantly, meeting deadlines, picking up this skill is essential in such a fast paced environment and working here and studying with LSP aided that massively.”

Shaping a Career Path

Hassan’s apprenticeship gave him the foundation to build his career in construction:

“My apprenticeship laid a solid foundation for me to begin building blocks onto, one by one, increasing my knowledge in the field and being able to contribute in a professional role that matters and adds value to communities. I am confident in doing my supporting role now, and I look forward to continuing to learn and moving to more senior roles in the future.”

Achievements and Milestones

One of Hassan’s proudest milestones was simply completing his apprenticeship - something he had not thought possible just a few years earlier:

“A big achievement for me is the completion of the apprenticeship itself. Completing the interviews during the EPA process felt daunting but I am proud that I got through it and passed.”

He also highlighted his involvement in fundraising through Barratt’s volunteer day initiative:

“Another achievement that I would like to share is the partaking in fundraising for a charity event that we were successful in participating in for a cause that is meaningful personally. Getting the chance to do this via the Volunteer day initiative at work is great.”

Recognition for Going Above and Beyond

Hassan’s commitment and eye for detail have not gone unnoticed:

“I contribute to my team on a weekly basis, providing them support with running their projects and construction sites. I have been recognised for having good attention to detail as I picked up a few issues on my construction site that I am the technical lead of.”

What He’s Most Proud Of

Reflecting on his journey, Hassan is most proud of taking on the challenge of returning to education and completing his apprenticeship in an entirely new industry:

“I am proud that I returned to education after many years and was able to be consistent enough to complete the apprenticeship, especially in a industry I was completely new to and had no prior, in depth, knowledge of. This success is something I am proud of, especially that alongside that I have gotten myself in a huge company where there are plenty of opportunities to further my career and progress.”

Advice for Future Apprentices

For those considering an apprenticeship, Hassan’s advice is clear:

“I believe apprenticeships are the way forward and the best option for young people aiming to get into most industries, and LSP are a good avenue for that. The wide range of learning that LSP offers at the convenience of being able to get an education remotely is impressive and attractive. More importantly, LSP having personnel that are supportive and present and available to aid you should you have concerns make them very ideal for a lot of people.”

Hassan’s story shows the power of apprenticeships to transform careers, open doors to new industries, and create opportunities for personal and professional growth. His journey from Mechanic to Technical Coordinator Apprentice is just the beginning of an exciting career in construction.
