Alumni Spotlight: Chloe Li
Alumni Spotlight: Chloe Li
Not everyone knows exactly what they want to do after college. For Chloe Li, an apprenticeship with LSP offered the perfect opportunity to gain experience, learn valuable skills, and build a career in finance - all while working and earning qualifications at the same time.
Why an Apprenticeship?
Chloe was honest about where she started:
“I had just finished college and was unsure what to do with my life. I didn't want to commit to university as none of the courses took my interest. I had a look around for jobs but pretty much all of them required experience, something which I didn't have. I stumbled across this finance assistant apprenticeship and took the chance!”
Skills and Knowledge Gained
Her apprenticeship gave her both professional qualifications and workplace skills:
“I gained a Level 2 as well as Level 3 AAT qualification with LSP. During my finance assistant apprenticeship, I learned how to process invoices, manage payments, and use accounting software like Excel and Sage.”
“I improved my attention to detail, time management, and teamwork. I also learned how to understand and explain financial information to others, which helped me grow in confidence.”
Shaping a Career Path
The experience helped Chloe find direction and motivation:
“My apprenticeship helped shape my career by giving me real work experience in finance. I gained skills in accounting, using software, and working in a team. It helped me understand what I enjoy as well as built my confidence. It has motivated me to keep learning as every day is a school day!”
Achievements and Milestones
Since completing her apprenticeship, Chloe has stepped up with more responsibility:
“One of my biggest achievements has been taking on more responsibility in my role, such as managing month-end tasks and supporting budgeting processes. I've also improved my Excel skills, creating reports that help my team make better financial decisions.”
“Another key milestone was being trusted to train new team members, which showed me how far I’ve grown. These experiences have really helped me build confidence and continue developing my finance career.”
Recognition and Feedback
Chloe’s commitment hasn’t gone unnoticed:
“I haven’t received formal awards or promotions yet, but I always do my best to support the team and take on tasks with a positive attitude. I’ve had good feedback from my manager for being reliable and willing to help out when needed, which motivates me to keep improving and growing in my role.”
What She’s Most Proud Of
For Chloe, her proudest success is mastering the company’s weekly scoresheet process:
“In my job, we perform a scoresheet weekly which shows the company's KPI's as well as sales and order figures via MS Excel. Frequently, it spits out issues for whatever reason and I have gotten to a point where I know what to expect and where the problems tend to lie. I would say I am proud of this as it's something only experience can teach.”
Advice for Future Apprentices
Chloe’s advice is simple — take the leap:
“If you’re thinking about doing an apprenticeship, I’d say just go for it. There's no harm in it and if it ends up being something you don't like or it was different to what you expected, you can be proud of yourself for trying! For me, it was a great way to learn whilst working, not just studying. 24/7.”
From uncertainty after college to growing confidence in finance, Chloe’s journey shows how apprenticeships can open doors and help young people build meaningful careers. Her story is a reminder that sometimes, taking a chance is the first step to discovering your path.
