Kieran and John - Motus Commercials

Why did you choose an Apprenticeship?

Kieran:  To further my career in general. The aspect of learning on the job suited me and I enjoy the hands on approach, so the apprenticeship suited me!

John (Line Manager):  Motus as an employer is very keen on training in general. There are paths to leadership roles and it’s important that we identify those with high potential to raise their profile and to improve performance on the job, both now and in the future!

What have been the benefits?

Kieran: Learning on the job works better as I can see how to apply the theory in the workplace and review my performance. I’ve been able to identify ways of working that are positive or negative, but haven’t really noticed, and as result improve for the better!

John (Line Manager):  The apprenticeship does genuinely show a commitment from the employee to go beyond the day to day. It also opens up the opportunity for discussion around someone’s job role and performance that’s less formal than a PDR. As a result, I get to know the thinking and ways of my employee! I would genuinely like to think that it’s changed Kieran’s approach in a positive way.

Why would you recommend Apprenticeships to others?

Kieran: It gives you a chance to learn on the job, which is the biggest part! It gives you the opportunity to learn new skills and help you further your career. It also allows you to reflect and receive guidance.

John (Line Manager): It allows staff to step away and spend quality time on learning and development. It is a major commitment and as a result, it required a degree of real enthusiasm form the apprentice, which translates to work improvement and growth, which will allow future career development.

Why do you think employers should offer Apprenticeships?

Kieran: It gives the apprentice a chance to go out and learn things that you wouldn’t necessarily learn naturally on the job. It also helps the apprentice to fulfil their job to a higher standard and learn new skills!

John (Line Manager): It shows employees a commitment to the business from them. There are three things that are core to our business; 1) profitability, 2) compliance and 3) engagement. The apprenticeship programme supports the engagement aspect and contributes to the business. Staff are our biggest resource and the apprenticeship offers a chance to grow future leaders and progression planning.
