Theme of the Month - Hot Weather Risks

Hot Weather Risks: Stay Safe in the Heat

Hot weather can bring sunshine and opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, but it also increases the risk of heat-related illnesses. As temperatures rise, it's important to take simple steps to stay cool, hydrated, and safe.

Extreme heat can affect anyone, but older adults, young children, people with long-term health conditions, and those who work or exercise outdoors are at greater risk. Heat exhaustion and heatstroke can develop quickly, so recognising the warning signs - such as dizziness, headache, excessive sweating, confusion, or feeling faint - is essential.

Protect yourself by drinking plenty of water, wearing lightweight clothing, staying in the shade during the hottest part of the day, and checking in on family, friends, and neighbours who may need extra support. Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles, even for a short time.

Understanding the risks of hot weather and taking a few simple precautions can help everyone stay healthy, comfortable, and safe throughout the summer.
