Apprentice of the Month - March 26

March Apprentice of the Month: Fergie Atwell

We’re delighted to announce that our March Apprentice of the Month is Fergie Atwell at Atwell Building & Restoration, following three outstanding nominations from Tutor Craig, Support Coach Diane and Line Manager Denise.

This recognition celebrates apprentices who demonstrate exceptional dedication, development and a proactive attitude towards both their role and apprenticeship. Fergie’s journey is a brilliant example of how commitment, professionalism and ambition can lead to outstanding success at such an early stage in a career.

Denise highlighted the incredible progress Fergie has made in the workplace:

“Fergie has grown in confidence, has developed in the workplace, sets herself high standards and has a great work ethic. She works hard and puts her heart into everything she does at work and in her apprenticeship.”

Recently, Fergie completed a conservation survey under supervision for a historic building project where poorly designed and failing rainwater goods had caused significant damp issues. Denise explained how Fergie played a key role in finding solutions:

“Fergie was instrumental in assisting with the decision-making on how to resolve this, including suggesting changes to the gutters and downpipes to keep the rainwater off the building, and the need for a new soakaway to cope with the heavier rainfalls experienced recently. This demonstrates her understanding of how essential it is to maintain buildings and her competencies on how to resolve issues, where being only 18 years old is commendable.”

Diane also praised Fergie’s outstanding attitude towards learning and her exceptional commitment to her apprenticeship:

“Fergie demonstrates an outstanding attitude towards learning, reflected in her 100% attendance record and consistent focus and commitment to her apprenticeship. She regularly submits high-quality assignments and has achieved distinctions throughout, which is a testament to her dedication and strong work ethic.”

Fergie has continued to grow in both confidence and professionalism. Diane reflected on how impressed she has been with Fergie’s workplace development:

“Over time, Fergie has grown significantly in confidence and now demonstrates a high level of professionalism and sound judgement. She sets herself consistently high standards and approaches her work with maturity and determination. I have been particularly impressed with her development in the workplace.”

“Fergie has also recently begun shadowing a surveyor, which involves travelling long distances and working extended hours. Despite this, she continues to manage both her workload and apprenticeship responsibilities exceptionally well, even during particularly busy periods.”

Fergie’s ambition for the future is equally impressive. Diane explained:

“She is highly motivated to progress in her career and has proactively researched progression routes within conservation. While a direct pathway is not currently available, she has explored alternative options such as the SAVA qualification and Associate RICS status, demonstrating foresight and ambition.”

Craig also shared how much of a positive impact Fergie has in learning sessions:

“As a student and person, Fergie is simply lovely to teach and quietly gets on with assigned tasks. If there are questions which require answering, she will often take the lead in the group and ask. This benefits herself and the whole group.”

Her commitment and discipline continue to shine through in every aspect of her apprenticeship:

“Fergie’s attendance is 100% and she is nearly always first to log onto Teams in a morning for the session. Assignment grades are consistently high at Distinction level which takes commitment and discipline to achieve.”

Craig concluded by saying:

“Fergie would be a worthy winner of this accolade as she is on another playing field when it comes to achieving the qualification she is studying. Well done Fergie… a dream to teach, keep up the hard work and 100% Distinctions!”

Fergie responded to the recognition saying:

“Becoming an apprentice has changed my life, it provides me with so much more experience and knowledge on everyday life and when talking to customers. It has built my confidence and allows me to make independent decisions. Being able to earn money and learn has been brilliant. An apprenticeship is the best of both worlds.”

Congratulations, Fergie - a very well-deserved Apprentice of the Month! 👏
