Alumni Spotlight: Sean Wade

An apprenticeship gave Sean Wade the chance to combine his passion for technology with hands-on engineering experience.

“I started my apprenticeship because I’ve always liked seeing how things are made, especially with new technology. CAD caught my attention because it mixes creativity with technical skills, and it’s really important in engineering. I wanted to learn how to use CAD software, work with experienced people, and see how designs go from an idea to something real. An apprenticeship seemed like the best way to get real experience and learn at the same time.”

Building Key Skills

Sean’s apprenticeship gave him both practical tools and broader knowledge of the construction industry.

“I learnt the basics of CAD during one of my units, which helped with my day-to-day work. Gaining core knowledge in the built environment and construction management was also useful, as it helped my understanding of different engineering disciplines.”

Shaping His Career Path

Through real-world training, Sean discovered just how central digital engineering is to modern construction.

“My digital engineering apprenticeship helped shape my career by giving me real experience with digital tools like CAD and BIM. I learned how digital engineering is used in real projects and how important it is for modern construction and design. Working with experienced engineers showed me what the job is really like and helped me decide that I want to keep building my skills in this area. My apprenticeship gave me confidence and helped me see the different paths I can take in digital engineering.”

Achievements and Milestones

Sean has already achieved some impressive career milestones since completing his apprenticeship.

“I have become a registered CAD practitioner with the Institution of Engineering Designers, which is my first step towards chartership and completing my EngTech. I have ran a number of projects on my own and taken a role in major projects for my company successfully.”

Recognition and Feedback

Sean’s contributions have been recognised both within his company and publicly.

“I have been recognised in some major projects for my company, including some work on a small site on LinkedIn. This included being part of the design for a new type of isolation valve.”

A Moment of Pride

For Sean, a few successes stand out most clearly.

“I’m definitely proud of completing my apprenticeship and achieving a distinction - it made me feel proud of all the hard work I had done. Also, coordinating my first project was a big step for me and gave me the confidence to feel comfortable managing larger projects in the future.”

Sean’s Advice

Sean encourages anyone considering an apprenticeship with LSP to take the leap.

“If you’re thinking about an apprenticeship with LSP, I’d say go for it. You’ll get real hands-on experience and learn skills that are actually used in the industry. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and get involved in as many projects as you can. The more you put in, the more you’ll get out of it. It’s a great way to start your career and figure out what you enjoy most.”

Sean’s story highlights how an apprenticeship can open the door to exciting opportunities, provide industry-recognised qualifications, and give the confidence to succeed in a competitive field like digital engineering.
