Line Manager of the Month - January

We’re proud to recognise Jon Day from Virgin Media O2 as our Line Manager of the Month for January! Jon’s commitment to supporting his team of apprentices has gone above and beyond, and it’s clear he’s had a hugely positive impact on their journey.

Jon was nominated by his apprentice Ashleigh, who said:

“Jon is an incredible advocate for all 10 apprentices, always striving to bring out the best in each of us. He takes the time to understand our individual learning styles and tailors his approach to match our preferred methods of communication and motivation.”

This level of personalised support makes a huge difference - and Jon doesn't stop there. He's hands-on in making sure apprentices are set up for success from every angle.

“He’s proactive in monitoring our workloads, ensuring that our portfolio managers understand that our apprenticeship should remain a top priority. He engages with them whenever necessary, ensuring we have ample time to prepare for our exams” Ashleigh added.

LSP Tutor Amer Hussain echoed this, praising Jon’s consistent engagement:

“Jon is always looking to support Ash and the other VMO2 apprentices, meeting with them every Friday to discuss how things are going and if any support is required.”

Jon also makes it a point to stay in close contact with Amer, working together to solve challenges and keep everyone aligned.

“He catches up with me monthly and relays this information, working together to find solutions. Jon ensures his learners have the time to work on the apprenticeship as a priority and manages the workload accordingly.”

As exams approach, Jon’s support has only grown stronger. Amer added:

“Coming up to the exam, additional effort has been put in to ensure they have the time and resources to get ready. The learners feel supported in the workplace and know they will be heard if they have any issues, or if they require exposure to different elements of PM to generate the required pieces of evidence for the portfolio.”

What sets Jon apart is how much he truly cares - not just about ticking boxes, but about the development of each apprentice as an individual. From helping them secure the right experience to making sure their voices are heard, he’s there every step of the way.

“With Jon's support I am confident the learners will complete the apprenticeship ahead of schedule, coming in before the apprenticeship end date. Apprenticeships are Tri-party arrangements between the learner, manager and training provider, and if all managers cared and took the time to support like Jon does, it would make the apprenticeship journey that much better for all.”

Congratulations, Jon – and thank you for the outstanding leadership and support you continue to give your team. You truly make a difference!
