Apprentice of the Month - July 25
This July, we’re delighted to recognise Emi-Leigh Rudd from the United Kingdom National Nuclear Laboratory as our Apprentice of the Month. Nominated by her Tutor, David, Emi’s journey is a shining example of dedication, skill development, and the positive impact an apprentice can have within their team and community.
David is full of praise for Emi’s progress, calling it “outstanding” and highlighting the significant milestones she has achieved.
“Over the past month, Emi has successfully completed five online knowledge assessment tests and three technical skills discussions, with her confidence and knowledge improving significantly across units.”
Her proactive approach to learning is one of the reasons behind this success. As David explains:
“She has also built and submitted detailed schedules using Primavera P6, and taken the initiative to explore forward and backward pass techniques through hands-on practice. Her approach to learning has been proactive and innovative, using Chat GPT to simulate and refine test preparation. This diligent preparation for the online assessments has enabled the pass marks mentioned previously.”
In the workplace, Emi’s impact is equally impressive. She has taken on significant project controls responsibilities, including building and updating schedules, tracking CPI and SPI, and analysing cost performance. David notes:
“She has demonstrated excellent analytical skills and has on occasion used this to facilitate improvements in processes in her workplace.”
One of Emi’s standout achievements was completing her first purchase requisition following formal training. David recalls:
“She quickly moved on to managing more complex orders, showing great attention to detail in assigning costs to the correct work orders and understanding supplier constraints and compliance requirements.”
Emi’s contributions extend beyond her role. As part of the Bright Stars programme, she promotes STEM careers in local schools and mentors another apprentice at UKNNL - something David says has had “a massive impact on the apprentice’s development.”
“Her ability to juggle multiple workstreams, maintain high standards, and continuously reflect and improve her performance is brilliant. Emi continually exceeds expectations which reflects her professional attitude and superb communication skills. Emi’s credibility, both in the workplace and in her assignment work is brilliant. If she says she is going to do something, she does it, and some!”
Emi responded to this recognition, saying:
“I am honoured to be recognised as Apprentice of the Month for July at LSP. I would like to express my sincere thanks to my mentors, colleagues, and the entire team for their support, and guidance throughout my apprenticeship. This recognition means a lot to me, and it reflects the encouragement and knowledge I’ve developed.
Thank you again for the award — it’s a real motivation to keep pushing myself and to make the most of every opportunity here at LSP.”
Congratulations, Emi - this award is a testament to your hard work, and the positive impact you’re making both in your role and within the wider apprenticeship community.
