Apprentice of the Month - August

To recognise the hard work of learners, our Tutors are nominating those who are doing exceptionally well throughout their apprenticeship to be awarded as our Apprentice of the Month.

Well done to our August Apprentice of the Month, Joss! Joss is currently completing his Level 3 Civil Engineering Technician Apprenticeship with Eastwood & Partners (Consulting Engineers) Limited and was nominated by his manager Catherine.

“As a multi-disciplinary engineering practice, Joss is expected to work across multiple disciplines. He’s shown great maturity and flexibility in his approach to workload and managing expectations, and has quickly adapted to the pace of work in the office. Not only has Joss demonstrated the ability to prioritise work, but he has gone above and beyond, staying late on a number of occasions when project deadlines have dictated fast turnaround and a coordinated team effort. Joss communicates well with staff at all levels and sets clear realistic targets for each project.”

“Joss displays a strong work ethic and is committed to maximise every opportunity for professional development. He regularly attends our voluntary lunchtime CPD sessions (which even some of the more senior members of staff struggle to attend!).

Joss isn’t afraid to ask a more senior member of the team if he is unsure of some aspect of a project, demonstrating his commitment to producing work to the highest level.

One example can be seen in the below email we received from a client regarding Joss’s work.

“Just a quick email to say that I was so pleased with the work Chris and his colleague Joss did on inspecting the drainage and ducting at Woodville. This was a key piece of due diligence and by identifying the issue now, we have time to rectify them. Please say a huge ‘Thank You’ to both of them...this is a good example of how being proactive really pays off”. Harworth

“Since joining the business Joss has become a valued member of the team, contributing not only to the work side of life here at Eastwood but also throwing himself into other aspects too. He plays a vital role as part of the Social Committee, helping ensure Eastwood is more than just a place to work offering social activities and supporting the local community. In just a short time, Joss has organised and led a bouldering evening, a staff social night and inspired various charity events in the office which have raised over £500 for local charities. Joss is very much a team player willing to take a hands-on role to help the team and the wider community.”

“Joss’s enthusiasm is contagious – he has taken a number of new starters under his wing and acted as a mentor during their first few weeks. Joss has helped support their work-based learning, such as AutoCAD, as well as helping them integrate into the team and going the extra mile to help them settle in.

Sharing his passion for engineering Joss has agreed to lead our Institution of Civil Engineers’ tour of Sheffield Buildings, which will be attended by over 30 staff.”

“Joss takes pride in his work and, as mentioned above, is confident to seek help when required to ensure work is completed to a high standard.

Joss demonstrated his passion for learning recently by taking ownership of a Site Constraints Plan, which required in depth discussions with a senior engineer and extensive independent work to produce the Plan. As one of only a few people in the company with experience of producing this type of plan, Joss is now able to offer advice and support to other staff members.”

“As an employee, Joss’s mature, positive, can-do attitude to work make him a strong candidate for Apprentice of the Month. From day one, Joss has fitted seamlessly into the team becoming a fantastic colleague and mentor for newer members of the team. Joss’s dedication to learning and commitment to his role is evident every minute of every day. Joss goes above and beyond daily and is a true asset to the business.”
