Alumni Spotlight: Katie Blackmoor

For Katie Blackmoor, an apprenticeship was more than just a first step into work - it was the foundation for building a long-term career filled with opportunities for growth.

“I started an apprenticeship so I could gain real world experience and develop key skills with guidance and support from professionals within the industry,” Katie explained. “I saw it as a pathway into a profession with long-term growth.”

Skills That Last a Lifetime

Throughout her apprenticeship, Katie developed the core skills that she still relies on today.

“Throughout my apprenticeship I developed a variety of key skills that have helped me during my career so far, such as problem solving, teamwork, communication, confidence and adaptability.”
“I enjoy helping others solve queries and offering guidance and support around software I’ve become competent in. I am able to work well as a team or alone, and can successfully manage a busy day - these are all things I have been practicing since the start of my apprenticeship.”

Career Clarity and Confidence

Katie’s apprenticeship not only gave her practical experience, but also clarity on where she wanted to take her career.

“My apprenticeship provided me with career clarity by exposing me to different areas of the business so I could choose which path I wanted to go down from there. It also helped me develop strong professional communication skills so I can confidently form strong relationships with professionals both within and outside the company.”
“I gained transferable knowledge which I now use during my procurement and commercial training, which will take me to the next stages in my career.”

Achievements and Recognition

Katie’s career has already seen huge progression:

“After completing my apprenticeship I stayed on at the same company and moved into an administration role. Within eight months I was promoted into a senior role and took on larger, more challenging tasks, which has built my confidence within my job.”
“I’ve had various positive comments in reviews and multiple emails of praise thanking me for my efficiency and adaptability. I’ve taken on various new roles over the years and always picked them up quickly, which has made the process smooth for others involved.”

A Moment of Pride

For Katie, one milestone stands out above the rest:

“I am particularly happy with my progression into a Senior Administrator role a especially in such a short period of time. I’m proud of how quickly I can pick up new tasks, as my apprenticeship gave me exposure to so many areas. I feel confident in more tasks than just my day-to-day job.”

“Do it! My apprenticeship has allowed me to have a stable, successful career. I now see a long-term future within the company and have built a solid foundation so I can venture out into multiple different career paths.”
