Alumni Spotlight: Fraser McNamee
Alumni Spotlight: Fraser McNamee
When Fraser McNamee began his apprenticeship, he wasn’t just looking for a qualification - he wanted real-world experience that would help him figure out his future career.
“I was motivated to start my apprenticeship because I wanted to gain real, hands-on experience while continuing to learn. I knew earning a qualification while working alongside professionals would give me an idea of what career I want to pursue. Working alongside professionals I knew I would learn new skills quickly and rapidly develop.”
Building Skills and Confidence
Throughout his apprenticeship, Fraser gained both technical and workplace knowledge that continues to benefit him today.
“During my apprenticeship I gained a mixture of technical knowledge and practical workplace knowledge. I've gained knowledge in how to keep myself and others safe in the workplace and how to work efficiently to complete tasks on time. I've also learned how to operate a forklift due to my apprenticeship which is a transferable skill I will carry with me wherever my career takes me.”
Shaping a Career Path
For Fraser, the apprenticeship opened doors to opportunities he hadn’t considered before.
“My apprenticeship has helped shape my career path as it’s opened up a whole industry filled with plenty of different diverse job opportunities. I am currently still working for the same company I completed my apprenticeship with, a job I would not have without my apprenticeship - but this comes with opportunities such as promotions and pay rises.”
Achievements and Recognition
Since completing his apprenticeship, Fraser has taken on more responsibility in his role, including supporting new team members.
“Since completing my apprenticeship, one of my biggest achievements has been applying the skills I learned to take on more responsibility in my role, for example training new team members. Another milestone has been growing in confidence and building great relationships with customers and colleagues. I can now independently carry out tasks that require competence and confidence.”
His efforts haven’t gone unnoticed.
“I have been recognised for going above and beyond on several occasions. For example, I have learnt and taken on responsibility for all exports outside the EU. My manager and team appreciate my effort and time dedicating a lot of my time to this role. This motivates me to keep looking at ways to add value to our team.”
A Moment of Pride
One highlight stands out for Fraser:
“One moment I'm especially proud of was when I personally trained up a new starter on the software, customer service and how to operate the machines safely and work efficiently. It was important to me because it showed how much I have developed in my career that I am training someone I was in the position of a few years ago.”
Advice for Future Apprentices
Fraser encourages anyone considering an apprenticeship with LSP to take full advantage of the opportunities available.
“My advice would be to make the most of every learning opportunity LSP has to offer. An apprenticeship gives you the chance to gain hands-on experience while learning from people who really know the job. Ask questions, listen, and don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. LSP has given me every opportunity I need to fulfil a career.”
Fraser’s journey shows how apprenticeships provide much more than just qualifications - they help people grow, gain confidence, and take meaningful steps toward long-term success.
