Jack Walker - Countryside Partnerships

My name is Jack Walker and I work for Countryside Partnerships (Vistry Group) as a Trainee Quantity Surveyor, and I am studying my Level 4 HNC with LSP. My day-to-day duties include tendering and procurement, measurements, payments, attending site meetings, final accounts and assisting in the completion of cost reports such as accruals and cost to completes.

My career has been greatly impacted by my apprenticeship in several ways. First, it gave me real experience and skills that I couldn't have acquired from traditional education alone. Collaborating with seasoned experts enabled me to implement my theoretical understanding in practical scenarios. Secondly, I learn so much from the mentorship and advice I am given during my apprenticeship. I can get knowledge from experienced professionals who share their perspectives and offer helpful criticism. In addition to quickening my learning, this assists me in expanding my professional network.

Working with my tutor/LSP has been a great experience so far. Their advice, knowledge, and helpful criticism are much appreciated especially when it comes to my assignment feedback. Through the program's placement procedure, their guidance has been helpful to my professional and personal growth.

In my opinion, the key benefits of apprenticeships are as follows:

  • Practical hands-on experience

  • Industry recognition

  • Specific development of skills

  • Earn while you learn

  • Smooth transition into full-time employment

  • Networking opportunities

I would recommend completing an apprenticeship to others due to all the above benefits I mentioned. Additionally, apprenticeships are available in several different industries, offering flexibility in choosing a career path. Apprenticeships are a good alternative for anyone looking for a hands-on, practical approach to learning and skill development, even while they might not be appropriate for everyone or every career. The advantages frequently include improved employability, a more seamless entry into the workforce, and the acquisition of industry-specific knowledge.

Reasons why I believe employers should offer an apprenticeship program include:

  • Skilled employee development

  • Cost-effective recruitment

  • Improves staff loyalty

  • Diversity and inclusion

  • Positive employer branding

  • Government incentives

All things considered, providing apprenticeships is a wise strategic investment for businesses, helping to meet organisational needs, foster long-term success, and develop an educated, committed workforce.
